Why I Wrote "Living by the Word"

I didn’t set out to write this book. I set out to find it.

When I began walking with Jesus, I was searching for something simple and solid—something biblical, easy to understand, and deeply connected to real life. I didn’t need lofty theory. I needed truth I could hold onto and live out. But what I found were books that either stayed at the surface with feel-good inspiration, or dove so deep into theology that they lost sight of everyday application.

Then I picked up a bestselling pseudo-Christian book—one that will remain nameless. It offered “rules for life” with bold, persuasive authority. But those rules weren’t grounded in Scripture. They were grounded in the world. And yet it was shaping the thoughts and habits of so many believers. That moment shook me. I couldn’t ignore it. I felt a burden to respond—not with criticism, but with something better. Something true. That’s when I knew I had to write the book I had been searching for all along.

Living by the Word is my response to that search. It’s not flashy or complicated. It’s a discipleship tool—clear, biblical, and practical. It walks through twelve core principles rooted directly in Scripture: Love, Wisdom, Humility, Diligence, Honesty, Forgiveness, Peace, Compassion, Self-Control, Generosity, Prayer, and Trust. These aren’t just traits to admire—they’re spiritual habits we’re meant to embody. Each chapter is designed to be easy to understand, easy to relate to, and ready to apply, whether you’re brand-new to the faith or have been following Jesus for years. And like every chapter in the book, it includes a parable—not because I’m profound, but because stories help us remember. Jesus used them. I’m simply trying to follow His lead.

I’m not trying to add to the Bible—I’m trying to point people back to it. It’s a supplement. A companion. A humble attempt to help others live out the Word of God in the details of daily life. I wrote it for people like me—curious, practical, hungry for truth and guidance. I believe with all my heart this may be the most important thing I ever do—but not because of the writing. Because of what it points to. The chapter on Trust was the hardest for me. It’s personal. Like many of the stories in this book, the parables I included were drawn from my own journey and from people close to me. Writing it meant revisiting seasons of disappointment, waiting, and surrender. But through it all, God reminded me—again—that His plan is always better, even when I don’t understand it. That’s the heart of this book: learning to live by His Word, not by the noise of the world.
